When Progress Feels Slow: How to Keep Trusting God Through the Process

Mama, I see you.
You’re juggling schedules, wiping tears (sometimes your own), folding endless laundry, and trying to find a moment to breathe. Maybe you’re working toward a goal that feels impossibly far away, praying over a situation that hasn’t changed, or simply trying to make it through the day without losing your cool.

Guess what… me too. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way that helps me and I pray it helps you.

Life isn’t a sprint—it’s a journey.
If you’ve ever felt like your progress is too slow or your steps are too small, this reminder is for you: God’s grace works even in the pauses, detours, and delays. Forward is forward, no matter the speed.

When Progress Feels Slow

As mamas, we often measure our success by how much we do—how clean the house is, how smoothly bedtime went, or how productive we were in the 15 minutes of quiet we managed to steal. But God doesn’t measure progress the way we do. He cares more about your growth, your heart, and your trust in Him than the pace you’re moving.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).

Your small steps—the deep breaths instead of the yelling, the whispered prayers instead of the panic, the simple choice to show up for your babies even when you’re exhausted—they all matter. Even on days when it feels like you’re barely keeping up, God is working behind the scenes, aligning His plans for your good.

Trusting God in the Chaos of Motherhood

Trusting God doesn’t mean life suddenly gets easy. It doesn’t mean you won’t feel overwhelmed or frustrated when things aren’t moving as quickly as you’d like. But it does mean you can lean on His strength instead of trying to carry it all alone.

Here are a few ways to stay anchored in God’s grace when the journey feels slow:

1. Pray for Perspective

Instead of asking, “Why is this taking so long?” try asking, “God, what do You want me to learn in this season?” His timing is never wasted.

2. Celebrate Small Wins

Did you make it through the morning without losing your temper? Did you finally get a moment to pray? Did you hug your babies extra tight today? Those are wins, mama.

3. Speak Life Over Your Situation

Your words have power. Instead of saying, “I’ll never get there,” say, “God is guiding me, and I’m growing in this process.”

4. Find Joy in the Present Moment

Sometimes, we’re so focused on the next thing that we miss the beauty in this thing. The sticky little hands, the bedtime giggles, the grace God gives us each day—those are reminders that He is with us.

5. Surround Yourself with Encouragement

Lean on scripture, uplifting music, or a friend who can point you back to God’s faithfulness.

Reflection Questions

  • What’s one area of motherhood where you feel “stuck”?
  • How can you invite God into that space today?
  • What small victory can you celebrate right now?

A Prayer for the Journey

Lord, I’m tired. I want to see progress, but sometimes it feels like I’m just surviving. Help me to trust Your timing and lean into Your grace. Remind me that even my smallest efforts matter. Fill me with peace, patience, and the strength to keep going. Thank You for walking this journey with me. Amen.

Mama, you’re doing better than you think. Keep trusting God through the process—He’s got you. 💛
